Gene and Nancy Eisenhauer of Herrin have been running the HerrinFesta Souvenir Shop for the last three years. This will be their fourth year, and, unfortunately, their last, as they are “retiring” after the 2008 HerrinFesta Italiana. They are grateful for their crew of volunteers who come in before Festa begins to set up the shop. In addition to the current HerrinFesta shirts, Gene and Nancy look to buy other merchandise that would be of interest, like purses, kitchenware, and dolls. They love to travel, and wherever they are in the world, they take the time to search for interesting items to sell in the Souvenir Shop. Of course, they always keep Italian merchandise on hand, such as Italian flags, that Herrin residents like to display during the month of May. The Herrin Heritage shirt, a popular item, will be available again this year. The shirt, which lists the names of the many Italian immigrants who settled here, is a testament to the depth of Herrin’s Italian roots. Be sure to stop by the Souvenir Shop during HerrinFesta this year, and wish them “Arrivederci!” as they generously give their all to one last HerrinFesta Italian.
