Saturday is always an exciting day at HerrinFesta. It starts off with the parade down Park Avenue. This year’s parade was the best ever – it lasted one full hour, and was full of the usual VIP’s, beautiful girls, and marching bands. Patriotism was apparent, and thankfully, the weather cooperated!
Following the parade, the Civic Center was the location to be for the fun and games that HerrinFesta has made famous. Veteran Pasta Eater, and last year’s winner, Harold Goot, took away the big prize in today’s Pasta Eating Contest.
Anthony Somone from Willow Springs, IL, was the “big” winner in the Bigga Nose Contest.
Taking 1st place in the Pasta Sauce Contest was Ruth Maynor, followed by Bob Jackson and Charlene Wagley in 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
This Year’s Game Show was a take-off of “Deal or No Deal” 10 cases were used, instead of 26, but rules were the same as the T.V. show, complete with offers from “the banker”. A special thank you to the “Street Team” form 101.5 CIL-FM, Tony King, Tabby King, Vickie King, and Terri Thompson, for all their help in putting the event together. The top prize available in the Junior Division was a $100 Mall Gift Certificate, and the top prize available in the Adult Division was $200 cash. Prizes won were as follows:
