Avery Osman Crowned 2026 Miss HerrinFesta Italiana
HERRIN, Ill. — For Avery Osman, the journey to becoming Miss HerrinFesta Italiana did not happen overnight.
After previously earning second runner-up honors in the 2024 competition, Osman returned to the Herrin Civic Center stage Monday evening with experience, determination, and a deep appreciation for the tradition she hoped to represent.
This time, her name was called as the winner of the 33rd Annual Miss HerrinFesta Italiana Scholarship Pageant, officially opening one of Southern Illinois’ most beloved Memorial Day traditions.
Surrounded by contestants, family members, and the HerrinFesta community, Osman was crowned the 2026 Miss HerrinFesta Italiana and awarded a $2,500 scholarship, along with the traditional crown, trophy, banner, and flowers that accompany the title.
A Long-Awaited Achievement
For Osman, the moment represented far more than a pageant victory. It marked the culmination of years spent embracing the experience and tradition surrounding HerrinFesta itself.
“Being crowned Miss HerrinFesta Italiana is an incredible, surreal honor,” Osman said. “I am filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity to represent such a rich Southern Illinois tradition.”
“I look forward to experiencing the Festa and all the fun, unique events it has to offer, as well as connecting with the community and immersing myself in its cherished traditions.”
The 20-year-old Anna native is the daughter of Eric and Janice Osman and is currently studying biology at the University of Mississippi.
After graduating in May 2027, she plans to attend dental school and pursue a Doctorate in Dental Medicine. Osman said the scholarship earned through HerrinFesta will directly support her educational goals.
Celebrating Leadership and Community
While the scholarship pageant remains one of HerrinFesta’s most recognizable traditions, it has also become an important opportunity to recognize young women who demonstrate leadership, confidence, community involvement, and ambition.
Contestants participate in interviews, evening wear competitions, and on-stage presentations while competing for scholarships and the opportunity to serve as ambassadors for the festival throughout the year.
According to pageant director Olivia Porter, Osman’s persistence and enthusiasm made her stand out among this year’s contestants.
“Avery has worked hard over the past several years, and I couldn’t be more excited to see her named Miss HerrinFesta Italiana,” Porter said.
“She is exactly the type of young woman we hope to see in this program year after year — someone who has passion and truly enjoys the full experience.”
“Avery brings a genuine enthusiasm to the role and has a deep appreciation for the Festa itself, the committee, and all of the volunteers who make this happen for our community.”
2026 HerrinFesta Court
As the newly crowned Miss HerrinFesta Italiana, Osman will spend the coming year representing the festival at community events across the region while also participating in activities throughout HerrinFesta week leading into Memorial Day weekend.
Joining Osman on the 2026 court are:
- First Runner-up: Aubrey Lemmon — awarded a $1,000 scholarship and trophy
- Second Runner-up: Sophie Lampley — awarded a $500 scholarship and trophy
A Southern Illinois Tradition
Now in its 33rd year, the Miss HerrinFesta Italiana Scholarship Pageant continues to celebrate not only tradition and heritage, but also the future of Southern Illinois through the accomplishments and aspirations of its participants.
HerrinFesta Italiana remains one of the region’s largest volunteer-driven celebrations, bringing thousands of visitors to Herrin each year for live music, food, carnival rides, cultural events, and family entertainment throughout Memorial Day week.
